LinkedIn is a great networking platform for professionals that allow you to connect with peers and other professionals from various domains world over. However, LinkedIn is much more than a networking platform; it can help you secure your dream job. Most of the recruiters these days scour LinkedIn for the right candidate. I created my LinkedIn profile while I was in grad school and it helped me secure my first job. A few years later I got an offer from a highly renowned MNC through LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a digital resume and like a resume there are certain profile tips you can follow to increase your chances of getting hired. Read on for LinkedIn profit tips that will increase your profile view and ultimately help you get the right job for your skills.
1. Profile Picture
You must have come across the saying “First impression is the lasting one”. Whenever a recruiter views your profile the first thing they notice is your profile picture. A professional looking profile picture can have a positive impact on the recruiter and this might increase your chances of getting hired. A well-dressed and groomed profile picture indicates professionalism. Therefore, the foremost thing you should do is upload a charming profile picture. An account with a profile picture has 14 times more profile views than one that does not.
2. Optimize on the Headline
Right below the profile picture is the headline. When a recruiter conducts a LinkedIn search, they can only view 10 profiles at a time and based on your profile picture and headline they decide to visit your profile. It is important that you have your designation followed by your organization in the headline. As a recruiter, if I search for ‘content writer’ the keyword will be highlighted when I visit your profile. This attracts the attention of the recruiter as they scroll past your profile.
3. Update your Experience, Education, Skills, and Interest
A profile with ALL-STAR profile strength is 27 times more likely to be found in recruiters search. You can increase your profile strength by updating your skills, education, experience, photo, location, and summary. These are the basic things you must do when you create the LinkedIn profile. Additionally, you should also follow the topic, company, and influencers that interest you. This will help the recruiter to have a better understanding of your interests.
4. LinkedIn Pulse
LinkedIn Pulse is a self-publishing platform that allows you to demonstrate your expertise in a particular field. By publishing content from your domain, you display your know-how to a wide range of audience. This platform can also be used to attract recruiters and piers from your domain to visit your profile. However, while publishing you should choose the right keywords as it will maximize the reach of your article. You can also share the post on other social media platforms to attract more engagement.
5. Optimize on Keywords
Most of the web services and social media are wrapped around keywords. Therefore, you must use keywords with intent. Without the right keywords included in your profile, you may never be discovered in a search. Take time to figure out the words you would want to be discovered for such as in my case I go for content writer, freelance content writer, copywriter, etc. I include these keywords in my title, summary, and the entire profile wherever possible such as the experience section. Using the right keywords will greatly increase your chances of being found in a search.
6. Avoid Typos and Grammatical Mistakes
Typos and grammatical mistakes will definitely have an adverse effect on your profile. A ridiculously good summary with typos and grammatical mistake will convey the wrong message to the recruiter.
7. Utilize the Add Profile Section
LinkedIn allows you to add new profile section which can make your profile look more visually appealing. Also, allowing you to add more information to your profile such as volunteer experience, publications, certifications, patients, courses, projects, awards& achievements, test score, and much more. These sections can help you make more connections.
8. Grow your Network, Connect with People
The whole point of LinkedIn is to connect with people, not just your peers or your college mates, rather people you don’t know but would like to know. By growing your connections you expand the reach of the content you will publish, more people are likely to read and share your content. You will obtain more endorsements and it’s also a great way of building a personal brand for yourself.
After having gone through these LinkedIn profile tips, you are ready to revamp your account and increase your reach. Recruiters are more likely to visit your profile.
So, what are you waiting for! Go and update your profile and see the difference.
